It's hard to find a decent center speaker.

Center channel speakers don't sound very good together. Audioholics pitted a $2,500 super-deluxe center channel against a modest $100 bookshelf speaker, and the Bookshelf beat out these expensive competition and smoked out the cheaper ($500) speakers. The problem is that the three-speaker design, which is meant to spread sound over a large listening area, also pollutes and distorts the sound, and it costs a lot of money to fix this problem. Small Size, Big Performance

I often buy things that expect absolutely less from them, only to fall short of even that low bar. Reviews for this center speaker have always been good, but that doesn't matter here. I bought it at a low selling price, expecting to be disappointed as I was replacing a great sounding speaker that was unfortunately too bulky for its place on the mantelpiece. Nice speaker - but.

I personally really like Polk speakers and also have a pair of Monitor 70s which sound really fantastic (especially for the price). That being said, as you already know, the center channel is one of your most important speakers in a surround sound/home theater system.
