I was skeptical about using this item after looking closely at the design. I was also a little desperate to try something to control my habit of biting mares and eating quickly. The reason for my concern was the risk that the "muzzle cage" would get caught and cause a big problem. Well after letting my mare have it for the day while I was around to look at it I figured it would be fine. After about a week, however, she managed to slip her front hoof through her muzzle while the collar was still on her neck. Her head and neck were lowered to the level of her knees and she could not raise her head. Thank God she was smart enough not to kill herself. Luckily I was around most of the day and she couldn't be in this predicament for more than 3 hours. At best, but still ;-( My husband used bolt cutters to cut the muzzle chamber off her leg. Removed with a hoof and the hoof got stuck in the process. A removable head strap would have been an improvement. The bottom line of my experience with this item A: That Not worth the risk to try this item.
