Review on 🐈 okocat Original Low-Dust Natural Wood Clumping Cat Litter with Enhanced Odor Control, 19.8 lbs. by Jaime Ferguson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

My "litter pick "

If you are a dedicated ailurophile and are looking for a cat litter that leaves a small carbon footprint, contains no antimicrobials, clumps well, masks odors, produces little to no dust , does not disgust you or your cats and is soft on the paws, then you might like Okocat cat litter. First of all, I stopped using clay and silicate putty many years ago because of the carcinogens from sodium bentonite. So if you use and love your clay filler, this review isn't for you. If you're using a plant-based filler like corn or wheat and are concerned about the dangers of aflatoxins but feel like you're running out of sustainable options, read on. kind of garbage left? We are left with wood, paper and crushed nut shells, with recipes and textures ranging from fine sawdust to granular, clumping and non-clumping formulas. The paper does not typically clump and is best recommended for kittens, immunocompromised cats, and cats with allergies. While crushed nut shells are a great option, they are difficult to keep clean as the filling is dark brown and very dusty. Score. My experience with "other" wood fillers was terrible, so despite my skepticism I decided it was worth a try. As soon as my order arrived, I filled a clean box with a 2 inch Sweat Scoop and added another inch of OKOcat. Garbage. The smell of wood was very faint and I wondered how it would handle the smell. My cats didn't care how it worked and seemed happy with the new litter. Pros: ** Ability to stick together is good. I pick up whatever is on top and then tip the box sideways to reveal the clumps. I was glad the clumps of urine didn't fall apart when I picked them up. **Very little dust. I haven't found a non-clay filler that doesn't produce them yet. But OKOcat doesn't stick to walls like plant-based clay and putty.** Odorless. Just a very faint smell of wood, not a hamster cage as one reviewer claimed. ** Texture and scoopability. OKOcat is similar to wood pellets but turned on its head so it feels softer than the pellets you find in other wood fillers. This is a big consideration for cats with claws as their paws are very sensitive. It is ideal for clay and vegetable spatulas but not suitable for Okocat due to the spatula's size. It's not a problem for me as I only collect what's spent and don't like throwing contaminated garbage back in the bin. (See cons to track down the problem). ** Odor control. Exceeds Swheat Scoop and World's Best. It doesn't leave an odd stall odor, in fact I only notice an odor when my IBD cat is doing her job. In his case, I would rather know than not whether he used the box because of his illness. Cons: ** Price. I spent about $1.12 a pound for an 18 pound box. This can be costly if you have multiple cats and boxes. A litter box weighing 18 pounds lasted 3 weeks for a litter box shared by 6 cats. Don't worry I have 2 other drawers but this one is the most used. ** Not without a trace. I have a vacuum cleaner next to me for quick cleaning, even though the box is in the bathroom. So if you're short on space and place the tray near a common area, you can keep the vacuum handy or use a tray with a less visible trail. ** OKOcat is a UK product and not yet available. Revain drives it, but sometimes they have a long backorder. So if you decide you like it, plan ahead and have a supply ready. ** Washable. It's a bad idea to use this as a selling point. Never flush away cat litter as their droppings contain parasites that remain in our water supply and poison aquatic animals. It also causes blindness in sea otters and sea lions. That's a bad idea, as convenient as it may be. After five weeks of use I can honestly say I am satisfied with the performance of the OKOcat litter, good enough to continue using it.
