Review on LG SN5Y Audio Sound Virtual by Quas Santiago

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Sounds great though. for soundbars

Sounds very good. Got this to replace the Pioneer soundbar which I love (on my living room TV). I fled with Pioneer to put in my office. Anyway, about this soundbar. This LG soundbar sounds really good right out of the box. After playing around with the levels a bit, I ended up with +1 highs and +5 lows. In terms of sound quality, that's what I was hoping for and the price is excellent (at least for my particular purchase) for a 400W unit. Cons: - HDMI ARC is buggy for me. I have a TCL TV and the LG soundbar works for exactly 2 seconds via HDMI ARC and then turns off until I unplug and plug the HDMI cable back in. Rinse and repeat. I've checked for firmware updates but there haven't been any, so it looks like ARC is half baked on this device. It may work with your hardware, it may not. I prefer to control the soundbar from the TV, so visually isn't good for it. That's why I used an analog input, but I'll move on to the next point. There is no analog input at all. I know analog is "old school" but it still has advantages (as discussed above). Luckily I think I have work. An analogue-optical adapter is on the way. This should allow me to adjust the volume to a reasonable level on the soundbar and then use my TV to control the audio level via the analogue output. Not ideal, but should work. The bass is not very high. It peaks at "5" where I set it. I'm by no means a bass freak and I almost never push the bass to the max I've ever had. With this device, the maximum bass roughly corresponds to my usual desired bass level. For people who are more bass oriented, it might seem like it's not powerful enough. Still -1 star for this inconvenience. All in all still a great setup. Update: LG support has confirmed that HDMI ARC is indeed buggy on my device, so I assumed it was coming back. Maybe I'm just unlucky. Sounds really great!
