We have made our second purchase in less than two months. If the cable does not retract, it becomes extremely dangerous for the dog. Remember this is a 20 pound puppy. The cable is wrapped around the dog and tightened while the dog tries to free itself. We were very lucky that our dog didn't break any bones or injure himself before we realized he was no longer backing away. We thought the first one was defective and Revain didn't have many options at the time so my wife ordered a second one which picked up speed faster than the first! Too bad because it would be ideal if it was reliable and didn't break after a few weeks of use...
