I was furious when the keyboard connector on my Surface Pro 7 failed (rendering my official cover unusable). So I was intrigued when I was offered a free Uogic keyboard in exchange for an honest review. I've been using it for two months now and I'm very happy with it! I've used another bluetooth keyboard which was ok but not great. With Uogic I love using my Surface again! [About me] I use my Surface Pro 7 for general web applications (e.g. email, shopping) but I mainly use it for drawing with Clip Studio Paint (keyboard + pen). My kids also play Minecraft with it (keyboard + mouse). [Excellent build quality] * The buttons are almost as good as the official Microsoft buttons. They offer the right amount of resistance and have a nice matte finish. (Such an improvement over my other random keyboard!) * The keyboard is also well weighted and sturdy. I also don't get any random key presses, when the keyboard is rotated. * The faux suede exterior looks great and has proven to be durable so far. * It has all the regular and meta keys that I use. (My other keyboard didn't have a delete key. WTH?) [Good battery life]* I'm not exactly sure how long the battery will last, but I use the keyboard 1-2 hours a day and charge it in once a week be security. I haven't fiddled with turning it on and off either, so whatever it's doing at idle works great. * It's USB-C, just like my phone charger. And the port is unremarkable. [Connection]* Re-pairing on startup takes a split second (like all Bluetooth keyboards) but is pretty quick. After that I never had a loss of connection and usually forget that it is a Bluetooth device. * I once tried to use the keyboard when it was detached. It worked, but it's such a strange experience. It's hard to imagine anyone doing this on a regular basis. If only surface. Connected to a TV or similar? [Meaning and Issue]* This keyboard offers excellent value for money. It's a lot cheaper than the official Type Cover and costs about the same as other Bluetooth keyboards (but MUCH more premium than other keyboards I've tried). So if you're definitely looking for a Bluetooth keyboard, I highly recommend this one! If you're deciding between this and Type Cover, you can choose either option. *If you have money to spare, you may want the Type Cover, to avoid the minor inconveniences of pairing and charging your keyboard. However, there is a KNOWN ISSUE in SP7 that sometimes breaks the Type Cover port. So if you are unlucky you can always come back. Conversely, Uogic has been a treat for the past 2 months! (Search the Microsoft help forums for "Surface pro 7 type lid/keyboard not working".) Bits: *Bluetooth pairing is a bit odd. Be sure to read the instructions! (turn on for 3 seconds, Fn+C)* You cannot use the trackpad while holding down keys (ex: Shift, Ctrl, Alt). This is not common, but it can be a problem when you play games or use drawing software, for example. However, the keys can be used in combination with a touchscreen, pen or an external mouse, so I didn't notice the problem for a long time.* Can't tell how much battery power is left, so it's just a guess. *compared to Type Cover: Surface doesn't switch between tablet and laptop modes when you flip the keyboard.
