Review on Master Lock 5401D Combination Capacity by Brian Trotter

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A big improvement over hiding the keys in a shed or barn, but the mounting screws are terrible

GOOD: If you're like me, this is a great way to store the keys of tractors, ATVs, and other farm equipment, which mount in a relatively secure location in your shed or shed rather than hiding the keys on a nail or in the appliance chassis. Note that I said "relatively safe"; If you're looking for something that's 100% theft proof (if that's possible), look elsewhere for something that's bolted on or concreted in. Others claimed this key vault could be broken into with some determination. Let's be realistic: a determined thief can break into almost anything, simply plug in wires or tow away devices without a key. But if you live in a relatively crime-free area and are only interested in stopping neighborhood kids from "borrowing" your stuff for pleasure trips, this article will suit you. For about the price of a spare key for one of my ATVs, this is a convenient place for the family to return the keys when they're done using an appliance (as opposed to the occasional nailing on a joist in the shed). ). .THE BAD: Then why did I only give it four stars? Because Phillips machine screw heads fail too easily when you try to drive them into a joist, even with the correct pilot holes. Come on Master Lock save a few cents and give us some decent screws or just leave them out. I ended up using torx screws which worked much better. Overall this is a good solution for storing keys and better than my previous way of storing them.
