Review on Soldering Tool: Heavy Duty Electronic Magnifier by Mike Devine

Revainrating 2 out of 5

There is no stability. who approved it?

A bit surprised by all the 5 star reviews for this product. It's not so good. Due to the shape of the magnetic parts, this item is unusable. And I took photos to prove it. A slight push at an angle and the board slides off and the magnetic parts pull tight. It just doesn't seem well thought out. I saw a video on YouTube where a person had magnetic things like this, but they unscrewed them to easily clamp the board. Nothing like that. I'm actually quite surprised at how many people have written 5 star reviews on it. Another problem is the fixed height of the magnetic elements. Let's assume, because it's useless if you need to apply ANY force up or sideways, you only have screw holes in two corners. You stick them in and go to stabilize them in other corners. wait, you can't. Sorry, but I'm going back to Revain and I'll find one that has some form of stability. Maybe if you need to do a very small repair on something with screw holes on all four corners this will work. For everything else I can't imagine it being good. Ouch. and the company logo that bothers is not even on the line! The 1st and 2nd photos show what happens when you slightly push the iron to the side. The only solution is to sacrifice two pieces to hold it in place at the back. The 3rd and 4th photos show how utterly useless this is if your board doesn't have the correct screw holes in all 4 corners, and how the rest of your parts become useless for stabilization purposes. Just awful. 2 stars because it can be used in at least two ways.
