We had a bulb with one of those knobs that only worked when you turned it between off and on. Normally this would probably send the lamp to the scrap yard, but a bit of googling revealed this to be an easy fix. And surprisingly, it was easy. The only catch was that my bulb had the same wire color for hot and ground, not the usual black and white. So pay attention to how the original was connected. Luckily I got it right. I also went for a simple slide switch as I think it will last longer than a rotary knob. While it's cheap and really shows it off, it's UL listed and probably one of the best. .
