I needed more ports to connect two external drives that I connected to a RAID 1 array. Both drives were USB 3.0 and fairly cheap for their 4TB size. If a drive fails in this device, all I have to do is plug in another drive of the same size and tell the computer to recover. I've had three RAID failures in dual drives over the years and in each case the failure was in the controller board, not the drives, rendering the unit unusable until I either bought another dual enclosure or just replaced it and reused. . hard drives elsewhere. This Anker adapter allowed me to install a cheaper and more flexible drive setup for less money with good throughput. The device itself is solidly built. The cable is long enough for easy positioning, unlike many adapters of this type. It's solid, serves its purpose, and works flawlessly. And the price is quite reasonable.
