Aside from looking good, Chevy distributor bolts can be poorly spaced as the OEM design has the bolts around the pressure ports on the intake manifold placed and insert them more tightly than necessary. With factory headers or headers that support the throttle body, things can get pretty tight around the exhaust junction. The smaller hex provides space for included tools such as sockets, ring spanners and cranked torque adapters. Sockets might seem like a good idea, but large spreaders may require hex wrenches, or at least very compact torque wrenches and torque adapters, while a small hex allows for offset torque adapters, which I feel are more appropriate.
