I've had many issues getting my optical mouse to work without lags or freezes. Thought it might have something to do with the interface I was working on, I experimented with different types of surfaces and mouse pads. I just haven't found this solid aluminum to work with my optical mice. Ironically, the best thing that worked was my laptop lid when I closed it. Maybe I just have to wait for the aluminum to warm up since it's obviously room temperature when starting. But it didn't work for me, at least not better than a regular mouse pad. And while the package included two devices that can be used together, each is fairly small if you want to use it on your lap while sitting on a couch or bed.
