Revainrating 5 out of 5

Garmin is better for active people

There was also Vivoactive HR (broken my fault), Samsung Gear S3 (not broken). This compares to I am an active person 5-6 days a week. Running, cycling, weightlifting, P90X type activities and so on. I'm not the type of person who necessarily needs accurate results to ensure a perfect workout, perfect calorie burn, and perfect heart rate zone. The fitness watch is the tool that records my workouts no matter what. None of these are accurate upper body heart rates. The blood confined to the wrists is intended to illustrate this. You must use a chest strap if you value accuracy. Garmin devices are much better than the Gear S3 in HR and GPS. Garmin GPS pings more frequently and more accurately. My heart rate tends to fluctuate, but Garmin seems to match more often when I check heart rate manually. The efficiency of the Garmin battery is much higher and it charges in less than 1 hour. As expected, the Vivoactive 3 lasts 4-5 days at my activity level. The Gear S3 lasts 2 days and takes over 2 hours to charge. Not suitable for active people who want to collect health data 24/7. The Gear S3's build quality and display are a clear winner over the Vivoactive series. The Gear S3 is heavy and well built, and many will easily convert it into a real watch. Garmin isn't really like that. The style of the Vivoactive 3 easily convinced me that I would return to Garmin. The display isn't as pleasant, but it's good, and the battery is more important, I suppose, for active types. Build quality may be just as good, but it's a lot lighter and cheaper than the S3. Garmin waterproof, the Gear S3 is waterproof. If you like water, this is an easy choice. I had to turn S3 when I was in the lake or ocean. Garmin never comes off! I need data 24 hours a day, 7 days a week no matter what I do during the day. I personally like the Garmin Connect software better. Garmin and Samsung have reliable data. Most reviews don't give positive ratings for Garmin software, but for some reason I like Garmin. As a smartwatch, the Gear S3 wins easily. It has built-in speaker, it can record music, email, text message and replies, it's more reliable. I do not need much. I need email, text messages, meeting notifications, that's enough. One more thing. Mid 40s and can't see very well without a reader. Garmin has a simpler interface, screen fonts tend to be larger, which is good for me. The S3 might be on par as the display contrast is better, but I appreciate larger fonts.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Hard to remember but it was
