You need it! We broke 2 of these very poorly designed remotes. The touchpad breaks too easily. We've dropped our remote (onto a concrete floor) with this protector a number of times and it's still working fine. As some reviews say, I've found that those thick treads get in the way of the pillow at times. Will you trade it for added protection, or will you go for something more subtle and risk damaging another remote? The solution for me was to take a dremel and cut off some of the material where it meets the touchpad. We have 2 Apple TVs in the house and both remotes have different protectors and I had to shorten them a bit on both. I think the minimal effort is worth it to provide the best protection for these poorly designed remotes.
