The vertical switch on the M53 only has a reach of about 2 inches before tripping. I put a float switch in and it has a much longer range. It hadn't rained in quite some time, so it took a long time for the pool to fill to a level that would trip the float switch. I noted the water level on a stick before the pump started and again when the pump shut off. about 7 inches of water drained. Almost 1 hour and 40 minutes elapsed between discharges. Without a float switch, the pump switched on after about 35 minutes.
