The "Check Motor" ad has been popping up here and there for a long time. The mechanic said it was the exhaust system. A few days later, the radiation test was due. I didn't have a fantastic supply so I bought an OBD scanner. Let's just say I went through the grades. This thing helped me see the codes and read the I/M prep after clearing the codes to see when my truck was prepped. Perhaps a more affordable device would have done the job, but this one gave me all the data I needed. With the latest updates available, I was ready to connect to the OBD2 symptom port on my truck and test all the possibilities. I didn't skim the manual and was able to learn all the settings and screens fairly quickly as the button design is really natural and the device prompts you on the screen. This allowed me to dive deeper into problems instead of just giving me the code to request. With this device I can actually test almost every tested design on my car. The OBDII units only check for emissions issues, on the car I can check the ABS and chassis sensors.
