Review on AcuRite 01226M Indoor Humidity Monitor by Josh Thompson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

OK for the price: parts and accessories

At first I was a little disappointed to find that the temperature gauge was 2 degrees higher. I expected better. I went to the Acurite website and found that the device was accurate to +/- 2 degrees over a temperature range of 32 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The device thus corresponds to its accuracy. For this price I expected too much. As an electrical engineer who has dedicated his life to developing measuring devices, I had to consider that just a temperature sensor with an accuracy of better than +/- 5 degrees Fahrenheit would cost more than what I paid for this device. Because of this, more accurate gauges are calibrated for accuracy and cost more due to the labor involved in calibration. You get what you pay for, and at ten bucks this device meets the specs at a modest price. Hence four stars. A good device for the money if you can measure the temperature to within +/- 2 degrees. I note that the manufacturer claims the humidity level to be +/- 10% accurate. Seems reasonable, if you need more precision get out your wallet.
