That does not work. Overheated.
I replaced my water pump and thought it would be a good idea to replace the thermostat while I'm at it. The new one never opened which caused my 4runner 90 pickup to overheat. I exchanged it for the old one and everything was fine again. I must have gotten a bad one. Professional mechanic double checked and confirmed.
