I bought 10 cups because I had the smaller one and it only made 1 cup of coffee. I love strong coffee, so 10 cups makes 2 medium cups for my husband and I, leaving room for your milk of choice. The coffee oil coats it, so it needs to be washed lightly after use. I take the silicone o-ring off the bottom and wash it too because the coffee grounds seem to get stuck in it and I don't want the seal to leak the next time I use it. I've had absolutely no issues with steam coming out of the seam and I don't even twist them that much when I close them. Make sure that the bottom does not overflow with water, hold it below the release button, otherwise the coffee maker will not brew properly and water may leak out. On my gas stove it takes about 5 minutes. I wish they would do more so I don't have to brew beer twice when I have company. Almost everyone I know loves strong coffee.
