Review on Polar Heart Rate Monitor Black by Ryan Barton

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Use a mini Torx T5 bit to replace the CR2025 battery.

I love this heart rate monitor but I find the watch unresponsive during very high activity. The update can take 30 seconds or more no matter how wet the tape is. It just isn't responsive enough for intense workouts. Otherwise it's a very smart device as it has one button and uses 'Pause' to change the action of the buttons to 'Increase' and 'Decrease' as well as move to the confirmation screen or next setting. It took some time to get used to. For geeks, it's very unique and very cool (although the features themselves aren't that reliable). Finally, I learned that if you want to be in heart rate mode but want to see the time, you simply place the watch monitor on your chest strap and it will toggle between heart rate, current time, and session time. To replace the battery (which I researched out of curiosity) use a Torx Mini-T5 bit, commonly referred to as an asterisk http://www.amazon.com/Torx-Star-Mini-Bit-T5-5 /dp/ B001LIKRP8/) to remove the back plate. Inside is a CR2025 battery with a small, thin metal strap to hold it in place. With a bit of sensitivity, the clip can withstand slight lateral pressure with your fingernail. Be careful not to lose the small spring that touches the backplate as it is exposed and vulnerable immediately after removing the backplate. Replacing the battery may void your warranty, so please be patient and careful.
