I'm pretty sure it almost caught fire

What happens when you combine cheap/high quality manufacturing with electricity? fire hazard. Enter this waterproof LED strip. After unpacking, I plugged it into an old 12V router power supply lying around. Oddly enough, only half of the strip lit up before it went out. I posted some pictures to show everyone what I mean. Curious as to how much was lit or unlit, I unfolded it and went in search of a tape measure. Since my garage currently looks like it could be in the next episode of Hunks, it took me about five minutes to find it. This number is important because when I got back inside, I could smell the unmistakable smell of melting plastic. I quickly measured the lit portion at about 8 feet (out of 16) and went to turn it off. That's when I found out where that smell was coming from, the supplied 12v socket was too hot to touch! My guess is that the +/- wires were touching internally somehow. This would cause a voltage drop and would explain why there is not enough current for the entire LED strip. So I quickly cut it off and soldered it to another one that was idle and voila, now the entire light bar works and I don't have to worry about my house burning down anymore. Two stars for a nice look after the repair, minus 3 stars for the "something could burn" problem. *** My Rating Criteria *** Build Quality (47.5%) - 0.0 Star Efficacy (47.5%) - 3.0 Star Customer Service (0.0%) - n/a Packaging/Presentation (5.0 %) - 5.0 stars WEIGHTED AVERAGE (100.0%) - 1.7 STARS
