The device is small. That's either good or bad depending on your needs. I have it under a shelf where I write on an attached table. One is not enough to evenly illuminate a medium-sized table. So I had to buy a second one. There is a range of incremental brightness levels from night light to work light. Very good. 3 different colors mimicking hard, soft and yellow temperatures. The magnets support themselves well, BUT (and this is more likely to be from 3M) the adhesives are not suitable for this. Both blocks came loose and now I use double sided tape. It's not that the device is heavy, it's just that the sticky pads aren't good enough for the job. It's a bit annoying. If you put it on metal then don't worry. The magnets seem to be able to. The length of the cord could have been longer if I wanted to be fussy, but I attached extension cords to both units.
