Review on πŸ”§ High-Quality Replacement Cabin Air Filter for Mercedes Benz C-Class - TYC 800186C by Craig Pears

Looks like a quality product but doesn't fit my 2010 MB C300

Looks like a well made cabin filter and at first glance it matches the OEM MB filter perfectly. These filters have two locking mechanisms that hold them in place. The first is a sliding white plastic latch, the second is a pair of tiny metal clips that attach on either side. Together, these filters go nowhere. Please note this filter comes with a white slide lock, but you will need to reuse the old metal clips so take extra care when removing them. I have previously purchased TYC filters and have been happy with them. The problem is that my replacement filter doesn't fit snugly enough to the metal clips on the sides. The original MB filter snapped into place smoothly and the latches/clips engaged with no issues. This filter requires a tremendous amount of force just to engage the plastic latch, which was a real problem given the location of the filter housing. I could only get one of the metal clips out with pliers, but as soon as I let go of the pliers the metal clip pops out. That's how I lost one of my braces. Of course, the filter is "latched" with a plastic slide latch, but considering the amount of force being put on it, I would expect it to fail and pop out after the car has sat in the sun for a while. Accessing this area isn't much fun and I'll always be wondering if the filter is set correctly now. It wasn't worth the effort to get it back, especially after deleting the old one. I'll probably check that out in the summer and change the filter earlier than usual. Now I need to find a replacement for the metal clip as well.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad but...
