Coolpo vs Meeting Owl Pro

If you are like me check out this camera hoping to get a cheaper Meeting Owl camera. I ended up buying this one and eventually returning it for Meeting Owl Pro so I wanted to cover the pros and cons of each. Coolpo Pros: - Plug and play setup. Meeting Owl requires downloading an application for initial setup and wants to call home over WiFi. It's very simple: plug in power and USB, switch the camera to a USB camera, done. Outstanding video quality. Image quality appears to be sharper on Coolpo than Meeting Owl. I believe it can use the internal 4K sensor and then crop parts of the image to the output 1080 image. It claims to be able to output 4K, but I definitely couldn't get it to do that. The camera has a USB 3.0 Micro-B connector, but only a USB 2.0 cable is included. You may be able to get 4K with the right cable, but they shouldn't get credit for it if they don't include the right cable. Cons of Coolpo: - Face tracking is random. The camera often gave me shots of a bookshelf, an empty chair, or a picture hanging in a room instead of real people. Owl Encounter seems to be much better at finding and staying with real people. Coolpo sometimes made wide, confusing virtual camera movements when it decided to look at something else. - The sound quality of the speakers is acceptable, but certainly not outstanding. The other side of my test calls reported no problems hearing the speakers, so the mics work fine. - The supplied power cord is very short. If you don't have power in the middle of your conference table, you need an extension cord. - There is no way to customize the output video. Admittedly, Meeting Owl doesn't have many configuration options, but you can turn the panoramic strip on or off and manually control the virtual camera if needed. With Coolpo, you get whatever the algorithm decides (which, as I said, many bookshelf shots and paintings have been). Conservation. I had high hopes that the cheaper version would be just as good, but unfortunately it's not.
