Review on CURT 23082 Universal Tri Ball Trailer by Ron Houston

Really smart idea: hitch locks

I love this trailer lock. I used to put locking pins in the hitch release, but recently a friend of mine lost a trailer to theft and thieves simply used a 1-7/8" ball on his 2 5/16" trailer to secure it tow with the towbar closed and locked. The orange three-ball insert is highly visible and deterrent, while the clutch lock is of good quality. The small steel cable is only there to hold the knot together and isn't really needed for it to work, so the fact that the steel cable is small in diameter and easy to cut is irrelevant as cutting the cable will not release the lock . . Since trailer theft is SO common, I feel better knowing that my hitch isn't easy to use to tow my trailer and I can take it with me when using one of my trailers as it fits three common ball sizes . For clarity, I've included a large orange "Remove Before Flight" banner left over from my plane to make it even more obvious that it's secured. On my smaller aluminum trailer, the typical hitch lock that wraps around it doesn't fit my unusually bulky hitch. Pricing information was not available at the time of writing this review. Compared to other locks I've tried, this one is my favorite because it's not a steel bar which is bulky and rusty. would recommend.
