I hate collars and don't like them at all. I used this collar as a temporary measure to control the rescue until a trusting relationship was established between us so she could be properly trained. The Martindale collar protects your dog by preventing choking. It's more of a warning system than a severe punishment system. I will use it from time to time when putting her in situations that I know will trigger her fear response, but I will not typically use it as a normal way of "managing" a dog. She wears a harness most of the time and that works great and I can also give her a soft but defined touch with her in the harness. This item is great for temporary training and certain trigger situations, but should not be used on a regular basis. For initial training only - not for your average walker. Train your dog with professional help if you need it beyond basic training.
