The bottom is covered with a dense wire mesh so that neither fruit nor vegetables fall out. I put almost 9 pounds of lemons, limes, tangerines, onions, garlic and ginger in the soil. I then topped it off with 120 appetizer-sized Halloween chocolates. Fruit and vegetables should be stored longer as they can breathe through the mesh and slatted sides. They look and feel very solid and don't wobble. It is very stylish and functional at the same time. It fits on my shelf under cabinets but also looks great on my kitchen island. It is ideal for fruits, vegetables, snacks or bread in the kitchen.
