I've been using this mat under a rolling office chair, on top of a hard wood floor. I definitely like the material of the mat more than the standard clear plastic ones you get from an office supply store. It has more of a rubbery feel than just hard plastic. The problem is that the mat just won't stay flat along the edges. After receiving it I rolled it out onto the floor and noticed the edges would curl a bit. I thought over time it would settle but it's been out for several days and the edges just won't flatten. I've tried weighing the edges down to get them to settle in position, but when I remove the objects the edges still pop back up. Another thing is that my chair leaves light indentations in the mat which don't seem to fade, so if that sort of aesthetic bothers you, then this mat may not be right for what you need. It's black, so dirt and dust does show up much easier than on a clear mat.
