Review on πŸ•οΈ Coleman Propane Camping Grill by Scott Reeves

Coleman PerfectFlow Propane Camp Grill

I am giving this grill 4 stars mainly for its excellent size while still being portable. Ordered from Revain Prime and due to the fact that I live in Oregon only 5 hours from the delivery center, I received it the very next day! The packaging was good and only four screws were required to mount the bottom legs to the unit. The problem was that Coleman forgot the screws! (take care of it now) For some reason, and it's my fault, I didn't read the description properly. I was expecting the grill to come with an insta-start button, which this version of the model doesn't have (but according to the owner's manual and lid label does have it), requiring you to manually lift the grill and light it with a match (come on yeah) This grill works great! Perfectly cooked burgers the first night and ribeye steaks the next! Everything went perfectly, although like any new grill, you'll have to get used to the flame height and cooking time. The quality of the body, the overall size and weight of the device are similar to the standard Coleman stove. The lid is a little flimsy and wants to give a little when opening and closing, but that's typical and doesn't really hurt. A very important note, the grill grate has deformed a little after the first use after cooling, which prevents the grill from sitting on the device, but only a little, and on the next use when the heat comes back from the burner Was included the grill grate even doubles so no big deal although I wish the grill grate was a slightly heavier material but still works well! Some people have complained about not being able to close the lid while cooking. That's a real fact! When developing this design, Coleman kept portability in mind. However, you can also just use a casserole dish as a lid and it works just as well! The new models of these ovens have a side burner which I don't need and reduce the side of the grill by 1/3 and thanks to Revain I was still able to buy this model as I love the size of the grill! You can make 6-8 hamburgers at a time, which you can find frozen in bags at the grocery store. I was able to cook (4) 3/4 pound ribeye at the same time while still leaving enough room on the grill for a fifth steak! They make them for new side burner units but that only covers 65-70% of that unit. So I'll update this review when I've finished this search and clarify how the grill works. Conclusion: It could be better, but really everything is possible! The portability and grilling range of this unit really makes this grill a winner! Lattice warping has gotten much worse over time! (See photo) Now the grate in the bottom left corner won't sit still at all unless you're cooking a heavy steak on it! After much research I see that this is a real problem with this version of the grill! In most cases I've read, even Coleman warranty replacement parts continue to warp, and here's why: This unit originally came with a non-stick cast iron grid, but was eventually replaced with a painted, lightweight steel version of it. The propane regulator for the unit is constructed around a cast iron grate, so the "high" setting generates much more heat than the steel grate is designed for, hence the warping! In my experience with this grill, I haven't had to turn the heat down for anything outside of the "Med Low"! In fact, for steaks that are always on "low", anything you cook on it will burn the hell out! The reason the grate warped was because I set it too high to preheat the grill before grilling! I am in the process of replacing the grate under warranty and this time I will only be preheating to 'medium-low'. I still rate them 3 stars for purpose and quality beyond this edition! I wish Coleman would send me the original cast iron grate, but I don't think that will happen! Now I understand why they discontinued the device! But as I said, with this knowledge of temporary settings, it should work just fine! (Will be updated again to confirm!)
