Review on πŸ›€ Moen Lounge Collection 24-Inch Brushed Nickel Double Towel Bar for Bathroom by Tricia Grundmeier

Great to have an extra handle, nice shine but quiet rattle

The Lounge wasn't my first choice for a heated towel rail in my new home. I didn't want those little balls on the ends. However, the chrome plating of the zinc strips is fine. The bars themselves are a little light but look nice. Installation was easy (I made sure to use a long bubble level and measure carefully). The set screws go a long way to holding the bezel securely, and there's not enough room to fully turn that little hex wrench, so be prepared to be patient and spend a minute or so tightening each end work. On a single towel rail, I think the slotted brackets allow the installer to adjust the spacing between the rails to hold the bar securely. With double towel rails, however, one hanger is tight and the other always a little loose. This little leeway doesn't bother him at all in his work. However, every time I removed the towel, it made a small noise and screamed "cheap gear!". So I took the towel rails apart again and rubbed the ends of the rails with isopropyl alcohol. I then took a tube of clear silicone sealant I had laying around and put a small spoonful into each pad, letting it dry for a few minutes before reseating the rod. It seems to have eliminated that obnoxious sound. I didn't use enough silicone to hold the handlebars in place permanently - just enough to help the stem resist rotation and keep it from rattling in the pad. Why did I buy Moen Lounge if I don't like those little shiny balls on the ends? ? I figured I needed two double 30 inch long towel rails to hold my bath towels without folding them while also leaving room for a towel to dry the shiny chrome hardware in my shower and a rug that ( temporarily) can be placed near the door. The architect provided wall space but 30 inch double towel rails are hard to find in chrome! There are only a few offered by small manufacturers. I didn't want to risk my project schedule (and overall happiness) with a brand I had never used before. I almost gave up and went for 24 inches! Then I discovered that Moen has a "bar only" product for their Mason line of towel warmers that is compatible with several other styles including lounge. I needed round moldings to match my sink faucet (it's a Kohler style that was discontinued in chrome before ordering the towel rails :-[). That limited my choices even more. I think I had 3 options - 2 with 5/8" handlebars and 1 with 3/4" handlebars. Based on pictures on the internet, I can say that Lounge is the best match for my fittings. I'm glad I chose the Moen Lounge range because the chrome has a deep mirror finish which is really beautiful. A lot of new homes use matte satin nickel these days, but I think it's sooo nice to be able to lightly polish polished chrome parts and be rewarded with that phenomenal shine. The sparkling fixtures in my new bathroom are so pretty to look at! That's why I need an extra rod. It's too small a washcloth or towel to use to wipe the chrome off when I need to brighten my mood.
