Review on Sony DVP-NC80V/B SACD DVD Changer: High-Quality, Black Edition by John May

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Does what it should and does it well.

So far I can only make two observations: The DVPNC80V's display is far from perfect and its free programming options are limited. Since most of your adjustments will likely be made through your monitor (assuming you're using a video deck and not just audio playback), this isn't a problem. While the built-in display needs to be around eye-level to be seen clearly (as another reviewer pointed out), it's good enough. Sony still doesn't get it; How can they produce a multi-disc deck that does so many things so well and yet refuses to offer shuffle ability on all five discs? Again, you can only shuffle one field at a time. Luckily (for me) I use this player primarily for SACD video and audio with little need for shuffling (I have another changer that fits the bill). Overall, though, this is a pretty remarkable device, especially for the price, and worth considering if you're looking for an all-in-one changer. Both sound and picture are excellent, with many options, notably disc compatibility: a truly amazing value.

Pros
  • Digital video equalizer
Cons
  • Exorbitant price
