Review on πŸ“² CARLINK ASCL6 Remote Start Cellular Interface Module: Start Your Car via Phone with 1 Year Included by David Foster

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Highly recommended for the price.

Works as intended with no unexpected setup or usage issues. Used with Fortin Evo RS. Cons: The signal is a little worse than a cell phone so in the area where I get 1 bar on my phone it's spotty on this one. I don't really care as it's parked right outside so remote start still works with the factory remote. Installed in the A-pillar, which seemed to work better than under the dash, but YMMV. Pros: Fast connection on Chrysler 300 between locks with app/factory remote/door knob and app showing locked. A little buggy/slow between the Ford Fusion, but that's probably Fortin's and not its fault. The installation was successful with no problems if you follow their instructions. They include an adapter to use between several different systems to use although it appears you can plug it directly and the adapter will switch 2 wires. The length of the cable matches the three cars I installed it in, no extra cable. The trunk release worked fine for me and there are other options to control the sliding side doors/other auxiliary inputs that I haven't used. Mech: This includes a beep that can be tied to a factory beep, which is optional and only works to send a notification. Telephone when the alarm clock rings. This is a nice feature, but it doesn't give you much information, just that your alarm has gone off. The app doesn't have a history that tells you when it was triggered. Once the notification is cleared on your phone, you will not be able to get any information about the alarm. The horn input for this is (+) and the output of most horns (-) is in the cockpit so it requires a relay to connect and on mine I tried connecting it to the Fortin alarm output and turned on the alarm system on the Fortin Module, appeared to have reported lock and unlock status well and worked great in testing. Overall, I highly recommend it, especially for the price. Other brands seem to be doing a lot more per year, but maybe they're reporting more info, like car temp? I have never used another Smart Start or similar that cost $100/year versus $40/year for this or $100/year for 3 years.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Damaged
