I really wanted to love her, but.

I bought 16 of these to use as a main emergency light during a power outage. Because power outages are unpredictable, I chose this model because it's attractive enough to keep on year-round. Unfortunately, the issues with battery life and cover design are so annoying that the bulbs now live in a box in the closet with my own screwdriver, while I live with black mounting plates on the walls year-round. What you should know: 1) Reviewers don't joke. These things burn up batteries at an amazing rate. No, really: AMAZING. 2) The battery compartment and on/off/auto switch are behind a panel held in place by four screws. It won't be too hard to deal with at times, but since these things drain batteries so quickly, this design flaw is a big problem in the background. 3) The photo sensor is not very sensitive. In the "Auto" setting, the light hangs day and night even in the faintest shade. (See Battery life.) 4) Motion sensitivity varies greatly depending on the light source. Some work well; others are triggered by movement two rooms away. 5) Quick question: Do you see those little diamonds on the front grille of the light? Some are installed vertically. Some are installed horizontally. The bars are glued in place so it's not something you can fix. It's not the end of the world, but it's another sign of shoddy design and construction. Overall, this light is a great concept but poorly executed. I challenge the manufacturer to go back to the drawing board and give us an attractive light with an easily accessible on/off/auto switch, larger batteries, and an easy-to-open, tool-free battery compartment. I would buy them in no time. This? Not as much.
