Review on πŸ“» Mini Pocket AM/FM Digital Tuning Transistor Radio - Compact Portable Stereo Radio with Earphone and Rechargeable Battery for Walking by Nick Atkinson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It works fine, there is too much DSP garbage in the sound.

This tiny device is almost perfect except for the sound quality, they like to show off the DSP, well they put too much in, the sound sounds too artificial e.g. For example, when AM is artificially modified to give it some stereo depth, it's annoying and distracting. (Yes, there is stereo AM, but nobody decodes it and it almost never airs). There's also too much artificial stereo on FM, and FM lacks some of its full bandwidth at high frequencies. Finally, there are some EQ changes in the volume setting, the treble gets a little brighter at maximum volume. This detail is not the effect of the drivers, for this test the sound is fed to an external amplifier to achieve the same listening volume, but the radio gain is set low or high, and the external amplifier compensates, the result is definitely a change in the sound . Too bad all these issues are most likely just bad programming, the hardware probably supports a bit better than what comes with it.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Unbelievable price

Works alright, a bit too much DSP junk in the audio.
