Can't win! Suitable for personal radios

I understand that Android and iPhone have built in circuitry to receive FM radio but it doesn't fit with their marketing plans so they didn't enable it. I use this radio on my walks to listen to Fresh Air shows that I would otherwise miss. It's tiny and lightweight with fine tuning. It has no replaceable batteries. You charge it like a smartphone. You can set the time and station presets. The reception is excellent. The sound quality is good. It doesn't have a speaker, but it does come withโ€ฆ

What a portable radio with good sound quality!

I really like this little pocket radio. It's small, flat and light enough to fit in a pocket or backpack. Especially with the nice neckband, it's easy for me to take it with me when walking or carving. It has such exceptional reception in my area, easily picking up over 20 stations. I scanned all of these stations and they are both loud and clear. I like the battery and the USB charging cable. The USB port can be plugged into the car cigarette lighter for charging while driving. It works fine, there is too much DSP garbage in the sound.

This tiny device is almost perfect except for the sound quality, they like to show off the DSP, well they put too much in, the sound sounds too artificial e.g. For example, when AM is artificially modified to give it some stereo depth, it's annoying and distracting. (Yes, there is stereo AM, but nobody decodes it and it almost never airs). There's also too much artificial stereo on FM, and FM lacks some of its full bandwidth at high frequencies. Finally, there are some EQ changes in the volumeโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Unbelievable price

Great inexpensive radio! in personal radios

I bought this radio primarily to listen to local talk shows and hockey games while doing chores or mowing the lawn and it works great! Like most people, I use my smartphone to listen to internet radio, streaming and podcasts, but sometimes it's good to have a good old radio handy! It may seem silly, but the ads that the iHeartRadio and Radio.com apps play are completely different than the ones that play real radio stations, and that annoys me. I want to hear local advertising and informationโ€ฆ
