You just need to top up every few days.
The pass could have been better and it seems to have taken time. An hour or so to get your bearings when it starts to work, but it's easy to use and fairly quiet. Sometimes gurgling noises are made. I keep mine at 50% humidity and only refill every few days when it's completely empty. But it's easier to use a homemade watering can and throw it every morning.
