On our old DirecTV remote of the same type, several of the number buttons and control buttons around the select button began to fail. I have one of DirecTV's oldest HD receivers and it wasn't on the list of compatible tuners, but given the low price I thought it might be worth a try. As it turned out, it worked right away, or should I say instantly, and I was able to use DirecTV's onscreen help to program my TV and DVD recorder to work with it. So the TV and DirecTV tuner are turned on and off with the same button as always, which is great. And if we're recording a sporting event, I can control the DVD recorder with the DirecTV remote by moving the select button on the DVD. That's the only thing I don't like about these remotes. It would be nice if DirecTV put a device selection slider on the right side of the remote so you could toggle it with your thumb instead of using two hands like you do now. But for the price I live with it.
