Successful or not for hard drive accessories

I bought this adapter to connect some old 2.5" drives that I pulled from old laptops that I wanted to recycle . The first one sent by Revain didn't work on Windows XP, Windows 7, or Mac OS X, which I've tried with four drives each. There may be some issues with the OS driver, but I suspect the quality of the USB connection, as well as the performance, that it can provide is also important. The second port worked with my MacPro using the front USB ports, but not with any of the Windows computers. I've also found that I can only get it to work by plugging the drive into the adapter and then into the USB socket. This didn't work if I already had the adapter plugged in. That's exactly what the instructions say, but there's no warning not to do this by -unlike changing discs. To change the drive, unplug the USB connector from the computer, change the drive, and then reconnect the USB cable to the computer. I don't know why it recognizes it better, but it does. This adapter comes with a small CD, but it's practically useless. There is a driver for Windows 98, but it can also be downloaded from the website. You don't need a driver for something more modern. There are a few other tips in the Revain reviews, but I didn't have to deal with such situations. I found the same advice in many other places when trying to figure out why my first attempt didn't work.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
