This product installed successfully and few factors prevent me from rating it higher. Pros: The tailgate handle assembly is easy to install and looks like an OEM part once installed. The quality is sufficient, but not outstanding. During the day it is very blurry, it is difficult to see small details. At night, in low light, there's a lot of blur, which is to be expected from a sensor of this type of camera. It works for what it's supposed to do, but it would be nice if the image was a bit sharper and with better dynamic range. With all the mainstream mini cameras built into cell phones, upgrading to a slightly better sensor shouldn't have been a significant cost. What could be improved: Small improvements to the wiring harness would make installation easier. First, power. the wiring harness was significantly shorter than the video wiring harness. There wasn't enough time to run the power harness from the back of my truck to the firewall. I wanted to separate the camera's power supply from the same circuit as the main unit, so that in the event of a short, only the radio's fuse would blow. So I had to make an extended wire harness for the power/ground connections. Second, the portion of the wiring harness attached to the tailgate handle was too short to exit the bottom of the tailgate. The longer wire harness needs to be fed into the underside of the tailgate handle to connect to the shorter wire harness on the handle itself. This means that if you need to remove the tailgate for any reason after installing the camera, you will need to remove the tailgate access panel to disconnect the wiring harness and remove the "long wiring harness" from the underside prior to removal . If the portion of the seat belt attached to the tailgate handle was long enough to come out of the tailgate before connecting to the longer seat belt, one could simply unhook the seat belt under the truck and then remove the tailgate without opening the tailgate access panel . Since I ended up making an extended power/ground harness, I also made a link handle extension to solve this problem. Third: Grommets - this kit is designed for Dodge Ram 02-05 trucks. There were nice oval holes in the bottom of the tailgate and on the edge of the truck bed to route cables from the tailgate under the truck. Since the cables could fray when the tailgate is opened and closed several times, it would have been nice if 2 rubber grommets had been included to protect the cables - but shouldn't have been a significant cost driver here either. Fourth: wiring harness. As this kit is for trucks, the wiring must follow the OEM taillight wiring under the truck and along the frame rail. Since the wiring is exposed to the elements, I sheathed the wiring harnesses, which I made in a split loom, to protect them. It would be nice if the wiring harnesses were already included in the kit. Finally, the wiring harnesses did not include a backup light activation wire that would cause the head unit to switch to the backup camera display. I ended up hooking up the reverse light circuit somewhere under the dash, but it would be easier to wire the reverse lights to the back of the truck either directly in the tail light wiring harness or in the tow hitch connector. However, this would require running another 20 feet of cable from the firewall to the back of the truck. All in all, I spent another $35 on additional materials to complete the installation and solve the above issues. Overall I'm happy with the end result. Let's see how long the camera lasts and how much the plastic grip can withstand in the sun and bad weather.
