I never had a problem with mascara until about 4 years ago. Creepy raccoon eyes. I noticed it on my upper eyelid and under my lower eyelid around noon, which was made worse by smiling or laughing. Mind you, this happened while I was wearing my previous clothes (eyelash liner from the cover of WATERPROOF). I've tried several other waterproof mascaras and each left my eyes smudgy and/or watery. The only downside to this mascara is really my preference - I prefer longer dark lashes to natural lashes. The first layer looks natural. If you're in it, it'll be right in your lane. I have to apply three coats - more than that can be difficult to work with as the lashes will be quite stiff by this point. Even after curling, applying, curling, applying, etc., lashes tend to lose height or length after an hour or so. But no raccoon eyes. That's a big thumbs up from me.
