Great price, best quality and overall design, reliability

Quality NAS, fast and thoughtful software. Port plus 1GE port aggregation. I've had it for a few months now and haven't seen any minor hiccups. Highly recommended!

  • Pleasing
Cons

BAD TEST, device freezes when disk is full - total data loss

Unbelievable but true, when you start the device due to lack of disk space, NAS crashes, there is no way to access operating system or data. The only option is to completely reformat and install RAID. Meaning COMPLETE data loss. The operating system has no warnings or security measures. This is the latest firmware 4 as of September 2018. Buffalo Technical Support will ask you to send the discs to a third party for data recovery! This is your best solution. Therefore, I am immediately returningโ€ฆ

Quick and easy to use

I'm an IT consultant. When my existing NAS started making strange noises, I decided that if it should fail completely, I had to reproduce my existing NAS before I lost my life's work. Other brands are much more expensive than this device. The setup is very simple. It's basically plug and play. I used the RAID 6 feature and setting up the shares was an easy task. There are some pretty cool things about this device that will help if you have multiple devices that sync with each other for dataโ€ฆ

$800 worth of paper weight in data store

This thing is so slow it's unusable. I've been contacting tech support for weeks trying to get it to work faster and now it's so slow it's completely useless. I tried to update the firmware and it crashed. I tried connecting it directly to the computer with a CAT5e cable, but the computer didn't establish a reliable network connection. I asked if they would return it and they said I had to go through the seller I bought it from and you know what? Raven won't be returning either! The thing isโ€ฆ

  • Could have gone for a newer model

I'm not sure if the drives are ok but.

I like having this storage on my LAN. I was able to copy my entire media library to it and watch movies while running Kodi on a Raspberry Pi. It made movie night a lot less stressful. The user interface of this system is pretty good and it's easy enough to set up and create shares with access controls. I really wish it didn't create Apple shares by default, it creates a bunch of junk files that you don't need on Windows or Linux. What worries me is that exactly 3 weeks after receiving andโ€ฆ

TeraStation 3410DN is a great buy for my home NAS

I bought a 12TB Buffalo TeraStation 3410DN Desktop NAS configured with Raid5. I've been waiting for the prices to come down for a while and I wasn't disappointed after a week with the TeraStation. Setup was easy. Plugged it in and powered it on, discovered the NAS with DHCP, then set a static IP and updated the firmware. The firmware took about 20 minutes and I was starting to think it wasn't going to work like one of the reviews said, but it just ended up taking longer than I thought it would.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Available in black only

Pretty but odd for a NAS

This unit is a great price and the quality seems great. However, the software is definitely as poorly written as any other SAN device. While I would recommend this device I would like to point out a few things because after contacting support and having a hard time they never responded to me for a simple issue. Allegedly compatible with the cloud, such as B. Dropbox, but the device cannot sync to Drop Box from the root folder/directory, you need to create a subfolder in Dropbox. In additionโ€ฆ
