Unbelievable but true, when you start the device due to lack of disk space, NAS crashes, there is no way to access operating system or data. The only option is to completely reformat and install RAID. Meaning COMPLETE data loss. The operating system has no warnings or security measures. This is the latest firmware 4 as of September 2018. Buffalo Technical Support will ask you to send the discs to a third party for data recovery! This is your best solution. Therefore, I am immediately returning both devices that I bought from Amazon. I'm glad it happened when the units were only a week old so I'm hoping to buy something more normal.
