Review on πŸƒ BUFFALO TeraStation 3420DN 4-Bay Desktop NAS 16TB (4x4TB) with Included Hard Drives & 2.5GBE by Jeff Pettis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Pretty but odd for a NAS

This unit is a great price and the quality seems great. However, the software is definitely as poorly written as any other SAN device. While I would recommend this device I would like to point out a few things because after contacting support and having a hard time they never responded to me for a simple issue. Allegedly compatible with the cloud, such as B. Dropbox, but the device cannot sync to Drop Box from the root folder/directory, you need to create a subfolder in Dropbox. In addition, the device performed a full file transfer for each sync operation instead of a list of changes/updates. That made him useless. The company was not interested in delving into the issue. The software built into the device is better than previous versions I've used, but their backup system (which would have been nice) was quirky and difficult to use. After registering your device for the warranty, you will receive a key and a link to download NovaBackup, which works fine on your PC. However, it would be nice to have a SAN-based backup tool that doesn't require a PC to run. Keep in mind that to use any of these devices, you must create a user on the device for each device that will access the data. This is different for each user accessing the data. This is because only one of each username/login can log in at a time. This is quite normal for these low-level SANs and should not be taken as a criticism. Also, if you are setting up persistent drive mapping in Windows 10 for the first time, try entering your login name as //devicename/username and your password and save it permanently as a separate username-password. After a few iterations, Windows finally remembers your credentials and no longer throws an error when attempting to connect to a device on the first drive access attempts after booting your PC with Win 10 or earlier. Overall I would recommend this but they could really be proud of the software and keep an attitude and that would be a 10 across the board. Made in Japan which is a win-win as the fit, finish and electronics are top notch. I recommend buying Buffalo, but they need to improve their software and attitude.
