Review on GeeFix πŸ”© HD Wall Anchor by Michael Boyce

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I bought a great mount and was ready to go but failed.

Background: I have a 55 inch TV and needed to hang it on the wall quickly (our 1 year old goes along with everything and I found it hitting the screen a week before installing). I bought a great mount and was ready to go, but little did I know the mount I bought was centered for 16" wall studs. As it turns out the studs in my target wall are 24 inches on center. This led to a situation where I had to get creative with an unsightly mount on the wall, tear down the wall to install horizontal 2x4s, or snag some of the best drywall anchors money can buy. Based on the product I'm reviewing, you can probably guess that I went with the latter option. One thing to note: I do NOT rely solely on drywall anchors to support the full weight of the TV and mount (the combined weight of the two is just under 60 pounds). My mount has two anchor bolts in the wall's mullion and four drywall anchors at each corner for added support. Pros: This product is DURABLE. As soon as I took them out of the box I was REALLY confident that they would stand the test of time. No doubt. I found the added YouTube channel that explains exactly how to use the product to be a huge bonus. Cons: The rope used to pull the wings to the center piece could have been a bit stronger. When pulling the wing on the middle part of a block, the cable broke and the central screw was only partially installed. To get around this I had to insert a very thin nail into one of the smaller holes near the center hole to secure the fender and prevent it from rotating so I could insert the first smaller side bolt. To make things even more difficult because the string broke, I had to pull the wing taut with pliers by vigorously pulling the center screw towards me. Luckily I was able to avoid dropping the wing into the cavity of the drywall and no additional holes were required. When using this product I would recommend using fishing line or guitar string. Alternatively, since the product comes with two strings, I would DEFINITELY just use one string for two devices and then switch to the other. Summary: After the mount was installed on the wall, it was pretty clear it wasn't going to move. I have a high level of confidence that my TV will stay in place and I don't feel like I have to worry about my son being crushed by a dropped TV. Overall this is a great product and I would highly recommend it.
