I'm surprised. I had such a cotton/metal belt so I didn't know what to expect. Read a few reviews that were balanced and thorough and helpful. Glad I decided to do it. I think a really thick backpack strap. With a slight waxy sheen (not really waxy or shiny). Very hard plastic buckle, I feel good. There is a thinner backing but that is only for the belt padding, I don't think it will be stressed and even if it does tear I think the belt will still serve its purpose. This is the worst that can happen and after a month of use everything is fine. I don't even see the belt wearing itself out. Its end is pre-melted/fired so you don't have to cut the end to length and reflow it. It is designed with a cone to make it easier to thread the belt through the belt loops. It also comes with a rubber band as an end stop. I like it because I can put it where it needs to be, unlike most belts where it stays less than 1 inch from the buckle. I'm thinking about sewing it in the perfect spot because if I rip the strap off too quickly it will come off the strap. Lost once, found stuck in my belt loop :P The opening mechanism is a bit different from what I expected and what you might expect. I found that the best way to do this, as another reviewer said, is to undo it halfway, loosen it a bit, then undo the buckle completely and you're done. It just takes some getting used to, but it's not as weird as it sounds (it's a belt, why would anyone learn how to control a belt buckle again, right?). I understand you. It really isn't that bad, I promise. It's strong, cheap, metal-free. So far, so good. I'll update if anything happens.
