Good things first: It smells pretty good. And I appreciate having space to stash my scoop more than I could imagine, especially as we move the genie between multiple litter boxes. But even though we've only been using it for 6 weeks I've had some issues which can be discouraging. me from buying again. First, refills are expensive. Shockingly expensive. For example, $10 for a cartridge in multiple packs is expensive if you're shopping, more like $15 otherwise. (It reminds me to buy printer ink after buying that nice cheap printer!) There are a few generic options that I'll try if I'm still using them once my current set runs out. Second, around the 3rd or 4th when I emptied it something caught, snagged or otherwise caught so I couldn't get the new bag to come down without a lot of effort. I've had to play around with it a lot, and believe me, a used dumpster isn't something you want to fight. I suspected that the refill might actually be empty, so I tried to analyze it to be sure. Refill slot, especially when wearing thick gloves. And you will need those gloves because this will be the dirtiest part of the container. (By the way the cartridge wasn't empty and I still had a lot of trouble ejecting the film even with it unplugged. I don't know why.) Third, the youngest of my children (7 years old - and yes we all have one Litter Box!) fights with a mechanism that allows debris from the Genie Bottle's top to fall into a sealed vault. In fact, she just struggles more than the rest of us. This is often difficult and must be done if you want to get rid of bad breath. Finally, dirt tends to accumulate in all nooks and crannies, including around the lid hinge. In fact, the lid came off completely when Jr fought it the other day, and it was another nasty gloved match to put it back on. So. I'm afraid I feel like I got what I paid for. We will continue to use it because it does a really good job of controlling odor. But there are many disappointments that prevent me from giving more than 3 stars. Update: remove that third star. In fact, I wouldn't buy this again. I just had to replace the cartridge (with a very expensive new one). Opening this tab is very, very difficult. I ended up having to use a screwdriver. Seriously, you're struggling with a dirty, smelly litter box and can't open it. It can't be that this ends without swearing. It's just not a task that should be anything but simple. Big failure.
