Review on High-performance Aluminum Thunderbolt 3 Dock with HDMI 2.0, 60W Laptop Charging | Certified for Windows PC and MacBook Pro (Excludes USB-C Ports without Thunderbolt Logo) by Todd Roybal

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It works well with a MacBook Pro and an HP monitor using the monitor's Thunderbolt connection.

I bought an HP 4k monitor to use with my MacBook Pro. I couldn't get the monitor to work with any of my Thunderbolt dongles, so I had to connect the monitor to my MacBook Pro (which also powered my 13-inch MacBook Pro) and also connect the dongle for my peripherals. I've read about external docks choosing between a Cable Matters dock and a CalDigit dock. I had an older CalDigit dock that I used with my old MacBook and it was fine, but I decided based on a few Pricing and Feature Issues for the Cable Matters. .A few words about this docking station. In general, I like its format and design. It's slim and the I/O ports are well placed. The headphone jack confuses me a little since it's on the front. The device and attached cable going to my desktop monitors may be interfering with my laptop screen. Most people prefer the headphone jack where it is, so that's my own configuration issue. What is good about this device. First, it works fine with my HP 4k monitor. The monitor connects to this device and the device connects to it. gs to my Macboo Pro. The video signal works and my Pro is also powered by a single cable that goes to the docking station. In addition, the docking station works well with regular USB peripherals. In the past, power-hungry external hard drives would fail if they were using too much power. This dock works well with peripherals, and I also use a powered USB strip connected to it (Cable Matters is a good supplier of those too). All in all, after a lot of frustration with video, an external hard drive, and power with smaller dongles for my MacBook Pro (and they all have great reviews), I've found sanity and a measure of redemption with the Cable Matters Thunderbolt 3 Dock, if you have a lot of peripherals, think you will have a lot of peripherals, or have a monitor that wants to connect to Thunderbolt 3 via dongle or dock, this is a great solution.
