When I replaced my 30 year old skinny toaster from The Mean Lean Toasting Machine (which is no longer made and which I really liked), I was looking for a shape that would fit my already crowded countertop, the flexibility to let me toast all breads and bagels, and of course, predictable, consistent and EVEN toasting. I've never had toast with "zebra stripes" on it. Well, unfortunately, this machine completely misses the most important criterion: good toast. Not only does it have to be discarded with every toast, it always leaves streaks and a second use in the morning can burn the edges of the bread. He also threw the toast multiple times as if the toast was an unguided rocket. It's a huge hassle for me at this time of year to box it up and send it back and pay for the return postage but when my holiday chores are done it's back and I'll start looking again. Apparently, reading someone else's experience, it's impossible to get a truly working toaster these days.
