Heat is inconsistent, not as easy to clean as you think!

I was so excited to buy this grill. I grill chicken outside all summer, but Michigan winters aren't the best for grilling. I bought this as a cheaper alternative to a Philips indoor grill. Unfortunately, my experience with Gotham Grill left a lot to be desired. The main reason for the return is intermittent heating: According to my infrared thermometer, the temperature of the cooking surface ranges from 560 degrees Fahrenheit at the tip of the heating element to 325 degrees Fahrenheit at the edges of the cooking zone. At the highest end, a chicken breast (about 10 ounces, fully thawed) still takes over 40 minutes to cook. The commercial shows this thing to be completely covered in food and everything cooks great on the grill, but that's just not the reality. You only need to use the center of the grill to achieve consistency, and again, on the highest setting, that temperature is only about 350-375 degrees around the heating element, so it takes a really long time to fully cook. Cleaning isn't bad, but as other reviewers have said, the back of the grill is uncoated so it's not easy to clean. You cannot clean it in the dishwasher as the plug is molded on the side of the grill surface. The drip tray can be washed in the dishwasher. In general, I returned and will continue to look for a solution to the premises.
