I hand washed this scarf in the sink and when I laid it on the towel I could see where the threads were already unraveling and tiny holes were forming. I haven't even worn it yet. So I would say to anyone who does this, don't wash it and it should take longer before the threads start to separate. I gave him a 2nd star knowing he would be thin and beautiful. But I didn't think that gently washing your hands would start it falling apart. I cannot recommend this scarf.
